Wood
A frame is not one piece of wood — it is several species, each doing a different job. We build the structural core in kiln-dried Swedish pine, the rails, blocks and bent components in Romanian beech, and anything the eye and hand actually meet in oak. Every board is graded and seasoned before it reaches the bench.
Swedish Pine4.2 cm
Slow-grown Scandinavian pine, milled to a standard 4.2 cm section for the structural core of our seating frames. Straight, tight grain and a high strength-to-weight ratio make it the timber we build the skeleton of a sofa or chair from — kiln-dried before cutting so the frame holds true for years.
Romanian Beech
Dense, close-grained and famously stable, beech is what European upholstery workshops have used for corner blocks, rails and dowels for a century — and what steam-bends cleanly into curved arms and backs without fracturing. We source it from Romania, where the growing conditions produce exactly that density.
Oak
Wherever timber is meant to be seen — an exposed leg, a show-frame, a tabletop or a piece of casegood — we build in solid oak. It is hard-wearing, takes a finish beautifully, and carries a grain that only becomes more handsome with age and use.
